I woke up like this.. Kinda.

What's in your spray bottle?

What’s in your spray bottle?

Hey Curlfrannnns!

A lot of times I get questions about how I maintain my wash and go overnight and what I do in the morning to refresh my curls. I’ve definitely had my fair share of failures as far as figuring out the best night time routine but as my hair has grown, I am now able to “pineapple” my hair. (Woot Woot GOALS lol) Life has gotten a little easier (Kinda sorta). As long as my scarf stays put, my curls are pretty easy to refresh in the morning.

I have tried a few different methods such as using water only, using water and oil, and have recently started using a mixture of my leave in (Giovani’s Direct Leave In Conditioner) with water.

So far I find that spritzing my hair with a mixture of my leave in and water after day 1 is most effective. After day 2, not so much. Depending on how well my hair came out after my wash and go, typically on day 3 and on I will take down my pineapple, spritz with the mixture and then apply a little extra leave in and gel with my hands in sections. This seems to reactivate my curls after being in the same style for a few days. The longest I have been able to go without looking a little wild is 4 days and then I have to pull it in a bun or wash it again. I’m shooting for 5 days!

I do tend to switch it up here and there just to test out different mixes but it definitely helps keep your curls hydrated daily.

So what’s in your spritz bottle? Is there a certain mixture you suggest I try?

We’re doing it all wrong..

Hey Curlies! ❀

I recently came across a picture on Instagram that pretty much shows that we have ALL been using bobby pins the incorrect way. Am I the only one who had no clue? Who says there is a right or wrong way anyways? (Side eye) Apparently the grooved end is the part the belongs on the scalp and not the other way around. *shrug* I am pretty sure since forever we have all been using them incorrectly.

Now if only we could find out where all of the bobby pins go when they suddenly grow legs and walk away. That is the REAL question here! Haha

Also, there seems to be a “science” to which pin you use. Who would have thought bobby pins were so complex!

I always wondered what the “hair pin” was used for. It seemed to useless until now.

Just wanted to share that little tidbit with you all. It caught my attention although I will most likely continue to forever use them incorrectly. What can I say, I am a creature of habit.

Why I have no desire to straighten my hai

frolength

Hey Curlies!

Let me first just say that I have absolutely nothing against those that straighten their natural hair. I used to straighten my hair every single week and never wore it curly. It was so damaged from heat and broken off because I had no idea how to care for it. Now that my hair is healthy, curly and beautiful, I have absolutely no desire to straighten it.

I have completely fallen in love with my curls and all that comes with it. The good and the bad. Curly hair is so versatile and even on a “bad hair day”, it typically looks pretty good (How ironic). I really don’t mind all of the extra work that comes along with it, because my hair is the healthiest it has ever been! No offense, but straight hair is boring to me. Yes there are some people that straighten their hair for the sake of length checks, and others that just simply love to have straight hair all of the time. Either way, we are all beautiful however we choose to present ourselves, but I choose a big curly fro! Frizz and all! πŸ™‚

I get the question a lot about whether I plan on straightening my hair anytime soon. I usually say “never say never”, but as of right now I do not see myself doing so in the near or far future. Length is obviously something that I want, but it is not my main goal. My goal is to just have healthy hair. Period. My hair was so damaged in the past from heat, why would I want to risk even straightening it once and having to start all over again? I’ll pass. I am the type of person where I would rather be safe than sorry. Straightening my hair is not worth the risk of damage that could potentially happen.

2006. High School Graduation. My hair was somewhat healthy but very long.

My hair was long but very damaged! It eventually started breaking off.

I am loving the process of learning my hair, trying new products and simply watching it grow healthy and strong. So for now I plan on continuing on my natural hair journey as a curly girl ONLY. No straightening necessary! πŸ™‚

Have you straightened your hair since going natural? Why or why not?
